Pebbel Penguin holding a Ticket to Antartica

The Royal Research Ship Sir David Attenborough is setting sail for Antarctica on Sunday 13 October. You can be a part of this incredible journey by adding your name to a time capsule that will travel with us to Rothera Research Station. Plus, you’ll receive weekly updates from the voyage, packed with stories, photos and videos!

A large red ship breaking through ice. The ship has a large green helideck at the front, and the upper decks are white. There are yellow cranes and winches on the aft deck. The ship has the name Sir David Attenborough written in large white letters along the bow.

Follow the journey and meet the crew as they travel over 8,000 nautical miles to a frozen world. There, you’ll see icebergs, penguins and whales, and meet scientists and teams working in and around Antarctica.

British Antarctic Survey has five research stations, and you’ll get to see how our people live and work there – making discoveries about our planet and how it is changing.

What should I expect?

When you sign up, the first email you will get will be your souvenir ticket! This confirms that your name has been added to the time capsule and that you’re subscribed to updates from the adventure.

You’ll get your first digital postcard on Wednesday 9 October, a few days before the RRS Sir David Attenborough leaves the UK.

Expect to hear from us every Wednesday for 10 weeks! As the ship sails South, you can expect to find out about life at sea, crossing the equator and cooking on a ship. The ship arrives in Antarctica in November, and you’ll learn more about our science and research stations, as well as some of the iconic wildlife that calls Antarctica home.
